Mathieu Schreyer began his life in Pontoise, just outside of Paris, France. His nomadic childhood led him through places from Morocco and Tunisia to Kuwait and Hong Kong. Mathieu soaked up the native musical vibes along the way. Mathieu’s family genuinely loves music and they cultivated his passion for it early on. He made his first DJ appearance at his own 9th birthday party, playing a selection of his sister’s 45’s. The seeds were sown for a lifelong immersion in music.
After DJing for a couple of years in his native France, Mathieu ultimately settled in Los Angeles in 1995. He immediately began DJing at LA's notable spots such as Louis XIV, Indochine, Little Temple,Hyde Lounge Mathieu’s eclectic style of mixing everything from Disco and Afro beat to Hip Hop and House established him as a resident DJ along with Garth Trinidad at Zanzibar, the club that earned LA global musical respect by inviting top notch guests from all over the world including DJ Spinna, Ron Trent, Bugz In The Attic, DJ Harvey and James Lavelle. After Zanzibar , Mathieu held a 9 years long residency at The Bar Marmont where he hosted a vast array of DJ’s , artists and creatives.
Mathieu has since shared the stage with a laundry list of notable artists and DJS: Ben Harper, Meshell Ndegeocello, DJ A-Trak, Egyptian Lover, Peanut Butter Wolf, Questlove of the Roots, King Krule ,Dam Funk, J Rocc , Gary Clark Jr , and Massive Attack.
In December 2006, Mathieu joined the DJ staff of indie radio’s most highly regarded station 89.9 KCRW. When longtime friend Jason Bentley became Station Director in 2008, he gave Mathieu the creative freedom to craft his own show. Every Friday from Midnight to 3am, Mathieu plays a unique selection of songs that reflect his worldwide musical tastes.
Beyond DJing, Mathieu is also a prolific Remixer and Producer. His credits include work with artists Steve Spacek, N’Dea Davenport, Tricky, Syreeta, Leon Ware and Omar Souleyman.
He has also worked on movie projects with The White Stripes and acclaimed director Michel Gondry for his film Human Nature.
And as a Music Supervisor Mathieu worked on the critically acclaimed Jon Favreau indie hit Chef. Following on this film Mathieu has since worked with Marc Forster for the indie film “All I See Is You” and with Vince Vaughn for his film “Term Life”.And he is currently producing a score with Leon Michels from El Michels Affair fame for an upcoming Jon Favreau TV project.
